Managed to persuade myself to make the drive up to the top of the hill at Angler's Retreat for a cycle, despite the fact that there were frequent torrential hailstorms and strong winds.

Got there a little early, got kitted up and waited for the other to arrive. by 7.15 no one else had turned up so I thought that maybe they had thought better of it given the conditions. I did think about not bothering myself but as I was there decided to just have a nice easy (and safe) ride up and down some of the fire roads. Set off and just as I was about to go over the crest of the hill saw some car headlights in the distance. I headed back down and sure enough Martyn and Dave had just turned up.

We were soon off down towards Angler's Retreat and then down 'Als descent' into Artists Valley. There were a few sketchy moments as things were a little slimy but we all made it unscathed. A little climb and soon the cold was forgotten about and then another descent. I actually came off on this one (but no one noticed so I was soon back up and riding). We then made the big climb back out of Artist's Valley and then did another loop along the MX trails back to the Nant-y-Moch road and then up over the tricky little rocky climb back to the cars.

The heavens opened on the final climb but other than that it stayed dry (although cold) for the whole ride. The river crossings and some of the puddles were pretty deep though. My new Goretex boots worked a treat though. combined with sealskinz sock and waterproof overtrousers, despite being in water up to my knees my feet stayed dry and worm... Perfect.
